Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is a Washington D.C.-based American TV journalist, anchor and commentator. Mitchell graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a degree in English literature. Mitchell began in the field of radio and television reporter in Philadelphia, KYW Radio and TV. In 1976 she joined the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV. (then WTOP in Washington DC). Then she joined NBC News Washington two years after that as a general reporter. Beginning in 1981 she started reporting from the White House. In 1988 she became the head of the congressional reporters. Mitchell became the Chief White House reporter in 1992 as well as the chief Foreign Affairs reporter for NBC News. Mitchell was a panelist and presenter of the TV program Meet the Press. Mitchell participated on a panel during the debate in 1988 with George Bush & Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell received the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in 2005 at the John F. Kennedy School of Government. The Radio-Television News Directors Association awarded Mitchell Leonard Zeidenberg the award in 2004 to recognize her efforts in defending First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell started covering the White House in 1981-1988, and during the presidency of Ronald Reagan. Her reporting included a number of crucial stories such as the Iran-contra affair, the tax and budget reforms in addition to the issue of arms control. She traveled widely with President Reagan for summits together with Mikhail Gorbachev.
